Screening of the work “Identity in Between”, “Rhizhotomikon” by Maria Sideri in the building of MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art (within TIF-HELEXPO, Thessaloniki)*

MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art-Collections of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and the State Museum of Contemporary Art invites the public of Thessaloniki to a new cycle of interventions in public space, hosting video works on the external surfaces of its building, for a specific period of time.

The first application of the new program entitled “Public Art Projections” is held with the screening of Maria Sideri’s work “Rhizhotomikon”, part of the collective project “Identity in Between”, organized and produced by RUNONART and directed by Efi Spyrou, during the 85th Thessaloniki International Fair, from 11 to 19 September 2021*, 20:30-23:00 at MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art (within TIF-HELEXPO). The new program is curated by Syrago Tsiara, asst. director of MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art. In her almost seven-minute video performance, Maria Sideri explores the limits of beneficence and toxicity, guided by the relationship between humans and nature. The work is also part of the exhibition “Identity in Between”, which is presented until September 26 at MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art, with the hosting and screening of video-performances by five women in total: Jenny Argyriou, Marianna Kavallierato, Virginia Mastrogiannaki, Maria Sideri and Eliza Soroga.

In the project “Identity in Between”, the term “identity” is used naturally today to describe characteristics, choices and activities that allow us to recognize ourselves, sometimes uniting and sometimes separating ourselves from others. At the same time, today more than ever, we live in the era of identities, with the acceptance that there is no unique self and that identity does not concern something singular, impenetrable and stable, but something multifaceted, polyphonic and fluid, opening up a wide field of discussions, revisions and new narratives. The performances of the five women took place and was filmed by the RUNONART team at the Former Hellinikon Airport in October 2020, and were accompanied by interviews with the artists.

RUNONART is an urban non-profit organization that aims to support the production of contemporary Greek Cypriot artistic work, to promote interdisciplinary and cross-border collaborations and to promote Greek Cypriot artistic work to new audiences worldwide in innovative ways, inviting artists and viewers to actively participate in the co-formation of a different creative and social environment.

The project “Identity in Between” was held by RUNONART AMKE, in co-organization with MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art-Collections of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and the State Museum of Contemporary Art, with the support of the NEON Culture and Development Organization and the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
