MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art is a pioneering institution for contemporary art and visual culture in Greece. In its first form (Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, MMCA), it became the first museum of contemporary art in Greece, and to this day, its mission is the conservation, study, promotion, and showcasing of the visual achievements of contemporary art. Its collections, primarily the result of donations from prominent figures in the art world (such as Alexander Iolas, Alexandros and Dorothy Xydis, Georges Aperghis, and many others) to MMCA, but also originating from the former State Museum of Contemporary Art, constitute significant public property. This wealth, along with the numerous temporary exhibitions and parallel activities organized by the Museum, highlighted by the Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, forms the main means of communication with the public.
The MOMus-Museum Alex Mylona, in Athens, is also part of it.
With the central mission of prosperity and social change, MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art aims to remain a core center for the production of knowledge and entertainment, critically contributing to the cultural demands of the present and the complex, urgent issues that humanity is facing.
