The art of weaving unrolls its thread outside Thessaloniki and “knits the tapestry” of the exhibition “Weaving Anew”, following MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, at the Volos Museum of the City.

The exhibition presents the flourishing and history of Greek tapestry along with paintings and sculptures that either formed the basis of the weaving designs or are in stylistic sequence with them. It also includes a selection of works from the major exhibition “Weavings. Painting and tapestry in Greece from 1960 to the present”, which took place in 2019 at the Benaki Museum (138 Pireos st., Athens) and includes creations using the traditional tapestry technique, displayed alongside original works by great artists.

The woven paintings in the exhibition highlight the timeless dimension of weaving art in Greece and its evolution in techniques and ideas, which transformed a product of domestic decorative use into a work of cultural heritage.
